|The Hill Country Aeromodelers is an association of Radio Controlled model aircraft enthusiasts. The club is a non-profit organization chartered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics, the national umbrella organization for aeromodeling in the United States.
The club operates from and maintains Ralph DeClairmont Flying Field in South Austin, inside Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park. We have an asphalt runway that is approximately 550 ft. by 50 ft. There is plenty of shade in the operations building and in the pilot pit area.
Visitors are welcome and members are always available to talk with you about this fun and exciting hobby. Come by and see us!
The Hill Country AeroModelers Radio Control Association offers free flight instruction to members. Members must have a current membership card, a current AMA license, and have their own aircraft and support equipment to enter flight training. The “Aeromodelers” currently list many qualified flight instructors who instruct on a voluntary basis. Their availability is governed by work and personal constraints. Flight instruction is available during the week by appointment, and on weekends. Saturday mornings are the best time for lessons, starting at 9:00 AM. Flight instructions are available on Sundays, however the traffic pattern is often full, this being the busiest flying day, and learning is hampered by heavy traffic.
