CLUB MEETING DRAWING NEAR

Be sure to attend out next club meeting on Monday, May 12 at 7:00 PM. Our meetings are held at the Manchaca Firehall, so be sure come early and have a great meal with your fellow modelers. Follow the links to the left to get directions or to check out the menu. See ya there!

Here are the highlights of last month's meeting:

HCAM Monthly meeting met for a record-breaking 27 minutes tonight! (Earlier record was 30 minutes!) 17 members attended!

* President Brian McMurray won the raffle!

* The helicopter fence is 95% completed due to the hard work of Jeff Tichenor (Project Manager), Jeff Hicks (The guy with fence installation "Experience"), Rafael, Dan Kimble and many others. The park poles were pulled with the expertise and help of David McBride and Larry Smallridge (Safety note: The HOLES have not been filled in yet....use caution if you wander out there to admire the work---WATCH WHERE YOU STEP! )
* We are still looking for "volunteer help" to design, built, conceptualize a replacement Frequency Pin board to accomodate more 2.4Ghz Spektrum pins and to replace our aging and honorable frerquency pin board.

* Coming SOON! Jim Houck reports he is putting the finishing touches on a starting stand (like the heavy wooden one at the north end of the pits area) which he is building for club use. THANKS JIM!

* We spent $80 for gas so the mowers would operate. Someone mentioned we might consider changing the raffle from $100 to containers of gasoline!!!!!!!!!

* We are looking at the MAY "Fun Fly" but it takes some volunteers for set-up. Let a club officer know if you are interested in participating!

* Pylon Race coming soooon to HCAM! We host the JULY 2008 event but will need volunteers. If you have questions about what kind of plane and engine are needed to qualify and race, ask Jeff Tichenor (jeff.tichenor@yahoo.com)

* We have a really good training manual for new RC students. If you want one, ask Rick or any instructor. We have copies for new students in the First Aid box.

* We have a 100 members---that means we also have 100 Safety Officers to make sure our club safety rules are followed.

CLUB 40 RACING SEASON UNDERWAY

The Club 40 racing season is again underway and again HCAM will be hosting a race this summer. There is a location change for the May 3 race. Please check out the flyer and try to be active in the racing circuit this sseason.

NEW LOCAL HOBBY SHOPS

We all know the importance of keeping our money here in Texas whenever someone can earn our business. There have been two new additions to the local hobby shop scene lately.

Be sure to check out The Hobby Express in Cedar Park. The owner has expressed to me that their prices are the same as Tower Hobbies.

Round Rock Hobbies is another local-ish shop that has been supporting our club lately. This store features a shop where you can work on your aircraft and a lounge with internet access and the RealFlight simulator.

Be sure to support those guys as the work to support us!

BIG BIRD SCHEDULED

HCAM has brought back our Big Bird event and it had been scheduled for October 11-12, 2008. This will be an AMA sanctioned event and we are very excited for the return of this great get together. Bobby Yount will be the Contest Director for HCAM's Big Bird and we will need big participation from the membership to make it a success. Feel free to contact Bobby and let him know how you are able to help.

CLUB TRAINER BACK IN FLIGHT

Joe Seitz and Oscar McNabb have completely refurbished and restored to flying condition a Hobbico .60 size trainer. Our club trainer is ready to go with a donated transmitter and will be at the field on Saturdays for authorized HCAM instructors to use with students.

MANY, MANY sincere thanks to Joe and Oscar for the hours they donated to the club restoring this aircraft. Thanks to Ron Simmons for his donations to this project as well. HCAM is extraordinarily lucky to have those members----guys that always give and give and give to support the club. If you see these guys at the field, let them know you appreciate their efforts.

Welcome to the home of the Hill Country AeroModelers Radio Control Association on the world wide web. Located in Austin, Texas, the HCAM consists of enthusiastic hobbyists who enjoy building and flying powered radio-controlled model aircraft. Ralph DeClairmont Flying Field (the HCAM home base) is located in South Austin just off of Slaughter Lane inside Mary Moore Searight Metropolitan Park. HCAM membership is open to the public and spectators are always welcome.

Weather permitting, DeClairmont Field is open for flying 7 days a week, but most flying occurs on the weekends. Flight training is available free of charge.
